What is CDW Insurance?

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) Insurance is a type of insurance cover which protects the hirer against damage to or theft of the rental vehicle. However many CDW policies have a CDW excess which the hirer may be liable to pay in the event of damage to the vehicle. The excess amount varies depending on the vehicle type.

Many deals offered by our suppliers are fully inclusive i.e. there is no CDW excess (look for "Inclusive No Excess" deals when you obtain a quote). These deals will have zero excess CDW cover, although some items will be excluded such as tyre damage, loss of keys, damage to uphostery, etc.

When you get a quote the following rental deals will be available:

  • Inclusive No Excess - these deals have zero CDW excess, but some items may be excluded such as tyre damage, window damage, loss of keys, etc.

  • Inclusive - these deals have a CDW excess figure, the excess amount is given in the "Rate Details" which you can see prior to booking a vehicle

If you decide to book an Inclusive deal, you can choose to either take out full CDW cover with Mondial when you make a reservation, or you can purchase additional cover from the rental supplier when you collect the vehicle.

The Mondial Insurance covers items such as tyre damage, window damage and theft of items from vehicle not covered by the standard CDW insurance. See full Mondial terms and conditions

We generally recommend that if you book an inclusive deal with a CDW excess, that you purchase CDW cover either with Mondial or directly with the rental vehicle supplier when you pick up the vehicle.
